Our Fall Gospel Meeting 2015

Our Fall Gospel Meeting is just a few days away! This year’s fall meeting is going to be a bit different. We have three generations of gospel preachers all from the same family: Roy Lanier, Jr., Mark Hanstein and Will Hanstein. As is noted elsewhere in out bulletin the meeting begins on Sunday, September 27 with services at 9:00, 10:00 and 1:30 and continues Monday through Wednesday evenings with services at 7:00 each night.

Roy Lanier, Jr. is a great friend to this congregation and is a man that has blessed us over the years with excellent lessons, enthusiasm for singing and a wonderful sense of humor. For years he and sister Patricia Lanier were regulars here when he worked with Winfred Clark in the School of Bible Emphasis and in a series of gospel meetings. Brother Lanier is a fine writer with a number of books and hundreds of articles to his credit. He has taught and encouraged preachers all over the brotherhood. One of the fellows he has encouraged is me and I appreciate him for that.

Through brother Lanier we came to know Mark Hanstein. Brother Lanier would often refer to him as “Patricia’s son-in-law” with that wry grin of his. Mark Hanstein is a fine gospel preacher who now serves as one of the elders for the Bear Valley Church of Christ in Denver. He is also the Academic Dean and an Instructor at the Bear Valley Bible Institute. Mark and Lee have two children, Will and Laura. Laura is married to Bart Warren, a fine gospel preacher in Glasgow, Kentucky and they have three boys.

Will Hanstein is the third of our meeting’s preachers this year. Will was born in Oklahoma City and raised in Montrose Colorado. He and his wife Jeni have two children, Samuel and Baylee. Will graduated from Freed-Hardeman University and has worked with churches in Tennessee, Texas and Colorado. He taught and directed graduate studies at Bear Valley and is now the director of the Southeast Institute of Biblical Studies (formerly East Tennessee School of Preaching) in Knoxville.

So it is that we have a multi-generational gospel meeting. But the main thing about it is that the Word of God will be taught by these three good men. God’s gospel is powerful (Romans 1:16), God’s Word is truth (2 Timothy 3:16-17, John 17:17), and it saves souls (1 Corinthians 1:18). Pray for the meeting, invite your friends, and plan to be here!
